about ELOISE

Eloise Laws Biography

The incomparable world-renown, award-winning vocalist and Broadway actress Eloise Laws reveals her new CD, Secrets, and she delivers her unique style and versatility straight from the heart.

Ms. Laws' distinctive vocal expressions can be heard on several classic Capital, Liberty and ABC recordings, produced by such luminaries as Ronnie Laws, Holland-Dozier-Holland, Linda Creed and Andre Fisher (Secrets). Never one to rest on her laurels, Ms. Laws continues to perform at music festivals, including, the Playboy Jazz Festival, the Long Beach Jazz Festival, among many others. She has won the prestigious Cherry Blossom Award from the Tokyo Music Festival and headlined the 94.7 The Wave Presents Jazz By the Bay at the Queen Mary series to record-breaking, sold-out audiences.

Most recently, Ms. Laws performed with Laws Family—consisting of herself and sister Debra Laws on vocals, with brother Ronnie Laws and his son, Jamin Laws on saxophones—headlining at The Cotton Club, Japan, the star-studded Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage Cruise, 2007 On Board Royal Caribbean's "Freedom of the Seas" and the prestigious Atlanta Jazz Festival.

Ms. Laws is an original lead cast member and developing partner of the highly successful Tony-nominated play It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues, which had its world premiere at the Denver Center Theatre Company. Opening on Broadway with great bravado at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theatre, it garnered four Tony nominations, and Ms. Laws received a Drama Desk Nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. She also received a coveted Helen Hayes Nomination for her performance at the Kennedy Center, and she continues to receive critical acclaim performing with The Blues cross-country.

Her other theatre roles underscore her exceptional versatility. They include Bloody Mary in South Pacific, Madame Tango in House of Flowers, multiple roles in Candide, and, most recently, as Weizero Channa in The Met's premiere production of The Return, among others. When she recently performed at the Denver Center Theatre Company's world premiere production of Nat King Cole: A Musical Healing, a Denver Post reviewer described Ms. Laws as: "A rare and ethereal presence . . . possessed of a voice that could move chimes on a windless night."

Ms. Laws also stars in the film BetRunner (directed by Vincent Spano), which screened under the Star Power Program of the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films.

Whenever she performs in concert or theatre, film and television, Eloise Laws not only successfully commands her audience, she mesmerizes them. With her current CD Secrets (Rikki Records/Scepterstein Records), she reaffirms her legendary status with an exemplary follow-up to The Key. Ms. Laws feels Secrets represents her most creative work to date, and she enjoys sharing selections from her new CD with live audiences throughout the world.

Currently, she performs internationally in concert tours as both a solo artist and as an integral part of the legendary "Laws Family," where outstanding musicians always accompany her.

HEALING SHOWER

Healing Shower

My journey began when I received the daunting news that would forever change my life. My first feeling was complete and total calm and silence. I did not want to tell anyone about the diagnosis of breast cancer. Why? Because I believed they would think ill or bad of me? Or maybe that I brought this all on myself? The guilt of what I may have done in the past to hurt or cause pain to those that I love and that love me? I wondered could this be punishment from God; even though I knew deep down that God does not work that way.

One of the reasons I struggled with not acknowledging my illness was the barrage of questions and advice that seemed to come from everywhere, including friends and family. How do I handle this? I just want to be quiet and left alone with my confusion. At some point, I had to tell someone. Who will it be first? It had to be someone stronger than me. Who would not panic and who would not breakdown and cry in front of me. Who was that person? I prayed and God gave me the answer. Thank God I am a believer. After I revealed my condition, the Healing Shower was born.

On that evening, as my family and friends gathered around me and lifted me up with loving expressions of comfort, support, faith, and determination, I found myself emboldened with strength. At that moment I knew I was not standing alone in my fight to conquer my fear and this illness. I could feel my "army" gathered around me cheering me on to the finish line. My desire to share this experience gave rise to the "Healing Shower." In fact, as a result of the "Healing Shower" and the loving support of my family and friends, I am overjoyed to share that today I am a 4 year breast cancer survivor.

I like to say that a "Healing Shower" is a rite of passage for individuals that are unexpectantly faced with a tragic, life altering illness. During these moments, a person can become overwhelmed with a variety of emotions and feelings that sometimes make it hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. You feel sadness, anxiety, rage, helplessness, defeat, and sometimes even failure. As a result, many end up separating themselves from the people they need the most, their family and friends. That's why a "Healing Shower" is a time and opportunity for loved ones to come together and celebrate positive energy and support before a person undergoes an intensive surgery or procedure. The "Healing Shower" sets the stage for a structured, loving, focused, and positive process that will encourage the patient to understand and embrace the long walk ahead.

After my "Healing Shower," I was very inspired, uplifted, and positive about the journey I was about to take so much so until I decided to write a book entitled the "Healing Shower." This book will give you instructions as to how to shower your family, friend, and loved ones in a difficult medical crisis. The "Healing Shower" is scheduled for release in the fall of 2011.

BLOG

A reason, a season or a lifetime

I am sending

this to you to see how many actually will read this.

Your response will be interesting.    Pay attention to what you read.    After you have finished reading it, you will know the reason it was written as a blog.
Here goes:

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.   When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person.    When someone is in your life for a REASON , it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.   They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support.   To aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually.   They may seem like a Godsend and they are.   They are there for   the reason you need them to be.   Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time.   This person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.   Sometimes they die.   Sometimes they walk away.   Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.   What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done.   The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Some people, come into your life for a SEASON , because your turn has come to share, grow or learn.   They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.   They may teach you something you have never done.    They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.   Believe it, it is real    But only for a season.   LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation.   Your job is to accept the lesson.     Love the person and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.    It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

Thank you   for being a part of my life.   Whether you were a reason, a season or a lifetime.

Life As We Knew It

The hate going on in this world has to stop. It causes a lifetime of pain whether it's in Norway or the USA. We must stop the hate! Ask yourself, do I want to be hated by anyone and as a result do I want them to hate and harm me.  Well,  that's what hate does. It brings harm to people.  In most cases death. Again look at what happened in Norway. In the USA Timothy McVay and so on.  Stop the hate now. Let's bring LOVE back in the USA.
